Mutual Aid in Bed-Stuy

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I organize a mutual aid network in my neighborhood, Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. I lead product management around our grocery delivery operation that has mobilized our 4000+ member network in purchasing and delivering groceries to 10,000+ vulnerable neighbors (majority of whom are immunocompromised, elderly, or disabled), and redistributing $700,000+ of donations to directly meet immediate community needs.

Our automation team created open source system documentation (based on our core digital tools: Slack, Airtable, Twilio, and our operational processes) to support other food access mutual aid groups around the world. I also help with general project management and organizational leadership as we continue to adapt to the pressing need in our community - from sourcing and distributing PPE, protest supplies, or air conditioners, to building new communication infrastructure to keep our neighbors connected during our ongoing public health, racist, and economic crises. Our work is done with a focus on neighbors help neighbors in solidarity, not charity, and has inspired me to continue to work in collective action for social justice.

If you would like to support Bed-Stuy Strong, please go to ioby.org/bedstuystrong or Venmo @bedstuystrong. Every dollar will end up helping fill the fridge of a neighbor in need.

womxn@swl EMPLOYEE RESOURCE GROUP

I co-founded Sidewalk Labs’ first employee resource group to support womxn colleagues with stronger company culture and more opportunities for advancement.

I led our advocacy efforts by facilitating mission and vision co-creation workshops for 40+ colleagues, running an inclusive working norms launch and rollout, and leading our delegation in conversations with the company’s executive leadership team.

Outside of classes and work, I loved getting involved in student life at college.

As a Resident Advisor (RA), I had the opportunity to advise and mentor first year students as they made their transition into college life. Planning events and programs to make UVA feel like a welcoming home for my 24 residents was one of my most meaningful experiences. For more about my role as an RA, please check out this video UVA created about my experience.

I've been involved on leadership councils on Grounds, including the Class of 2016 Trustees as Chair of the Career & Alumni Committee. My team of 12 fourth years students has planned 15+ initiatives and programs to help the graduating class navigate the job search, connect with alumni, and prepare for post-grad life. I was also involved for 2 years on the Community Affairs Committee of Student Council where I created the EngageCville Dinner, a banquet to connect 70+ first year students with 10 influential Charlottesville community members.

On Alternative Spring Break (ASB), I have spent three spring breaks volunteering in cities across the US. As Site Leader on my final trip, I led 10 students on a weeklong trip to Seattle, WA where we worked with Seattle Parks and Recreation. I managed a budget of $8500, led dialogues and service learning activities, and coordinated all trip logistics and itineraries.

Me and my trip participants on Alternative Spring Break in Seattle

I was part of the McIntire School of Commerce's Promotions and Advertising class, a 9-credit year-long course for Fourth Year students. Our class of 30 students has spent the last year creating an national integrated advertising campaign concept for our client, Snapple, as part of the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). As a member of the planning and creative committees, I helped to develop the creative brief and come up with campaign executions across various channels, and I desiged our final presentation for the competition. Our pitch won the national championship, solidifying the third first-place finish for UVA since the program started in 1980.

During my Third Year, I was awarded a $1000 prize and Honorable Mention for UVa's Entrepreneurship Cup, a pitch and concept competition. I participated in the Social Entrepreneurship track and pitched a concept to an audience and panel of industry experts. My idea, Village Dish, is an online marketplace that builds shared dining experiences to facilitate human connections, awareness around food equity issues, and support for organizations fighting hunger and nutrition issues.

I've served as Assistant Vice President of Recruitment for my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, where we coordinated a week's worth of events to recruit a new member class from a pool of 1000+ candidates. I oversaw a $3000 budget, 20-person committee, 6 speakers, and developed and executed an interior decorating theme.
